About Bloordale

An infectious spirit of good-will is evident along Bloor Street West between Dufferin and Lansdowne these days, as community leaders, merchants and residents have joined together in an ambitious program to make their neighbourhood a vibrant and stable place to live, work, shop and visit. Bloordale Village founded in 1976, is playing a major role in this endeavour. The area also offers a collection of diverse and affordable restaurants. Compacted into a few blocks they include: Portuguese, Indian, African, Vietnamese, Caribbean and Middle Eastern. Among many excellent businesses, Bloordale is notable for its bicycle shops that sell both new and used bikes as well as Bike Pirates a community bicycle repair centre that trains you to fix and keep your bike in good condition. This always-evolving area recently welcomed several new galleries to the mix; Mercer Union opened its doors in a spectacular, reclaimed space that was once a theatre building. Mercer Union Gallery is one of Canada’s most established artist run spaces, all exhibitions are free to the general public. Throughout Bloordale notice the fine historic details on turn-of-the-last-century buildings. Also find, embedded throughout the area, small tile mosaics installed as replacements for broken tiles as well as other installed art and community projects. Bloordale hosts a number of events that celebrate the area that the Bloordale BIA fosters, please see the events section for more information.

Bloordale is distantly recognizable by its blue streetlight poles that line the street. The streetlights are topped with yearlong glowing fan-shaped displays made of LED lights.
